BEATRICE
BEATRICE, a half-open formal barong in natural jusi, is part of the Mayumi line, finished with long sleeves and a regular collar. Jusi — Filipino for “silk,” from the Chinese hu-shih — is reeled from the cocoon of the Bombyx mori silkworm; the towns of Bulacan, Bocaue, Malolos, Hagonoy, and Baliuag were historically its centers of production. This half-open construction is known as “pechera” (from the Spanish pecho, “chest”) — the oldest and most classic barong style, with embroidery concentrated along the chest opening. Tagged by the maker for formal occasions, graduation ceremonies.
