AGOSTO

AGOSTO, a half open formal barong in natural piña-silk, is part of the EN Barong Filipino line, finished with long sleeves and a regular collar. Piña-silk blends the country’s most storied fiber — hand-extracted from pineapple-leaf tissue — with silk, historically reserved for the most formal tier of barong tagalog and baro’t saya. Its embroidery incorporates calado, a cut-openwork technique that dates to the 1850s heyday of piña and jusi barong. This half-open construction is known as “pechera” (from the Spanish pecho, “chest”) — the oldest and most classic barong style, with embroidery concentrated along the chest opening.
